Sight for Louis-Philippe

My son, Louis-Philippe was diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease when he was only six years old. Since his diagnosis, he has steadily lost his vision.
Now, he’s at the point that regular glasses are no longer of any
assistance. Last year, he won an award for courage due to his
persistence in achieving good grades and functioning so well.
Louis is only 11 years old and started middle school this year. The
reality of losing his sight is beginning to set in and he is terrified. The brightness of trying to read is causing him horrible headache pain.
His doctor at Shands Hospital (Dr. Straughn - low vision specialist)
has found special glasses that will help him see. These glasses are
very expensive, but they would dramatically improve Louis’ ability to
use his remaining peripheral vision.
In the past these electronic glasses cost from $10,000 and up. However, IrisVision is offering electronic glasses for a much lower cost and would follow with software updates.
They will also help stop the
headaches as they allow him to invert colors and can turn his pages
dark with light letters - thus diminishing the pain.
With them, Louis will be able to continue to be functional in school
and can develop his many talents. Louis is brilliant - taking advanced
math and never falling behind until this year. His loss of vision has
never stopped him from moving forward. Now, he needs help. Between the headaches, the pain and the increased stress of middle school, he’s becoming despondent and overwhelmed.
Without the glasses, his life will become increasingly unbearable.
The glasses cost approximately $2500 and the accessories are
approximately $500 more. We are trying to raise $3,000.00 so that he
can use the vision that he has left.
