Shu Yi Wu's Memorial and Funeral

ARTICLE ON MY MOM'S STORY

Hello, my name is Sally.

My mom, Shu Yi (56), was a precious mother of a son, and two daughters, and a wife to my dad. On the night of February 18th, 2024, my mother was thrown to the ground during a robbery in her restaurant while she was attempting to grab the thief. Her head slammed into the ground, resulting in a subdural hematoma and a brainstem hemorrhage. She went through a four-hour surgery to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, she did not survive her traumatic injuries and passed away the following morning.

My mother was an extremely hardworking immigrant who worked and raised me and my two siblings all on her own after her husband got deported. After a decade of her fighting to bring my father back to the United States, they decided to open up a restaurant.

My mom was the most generous and selfless person I knew. She always helped everyone before herself and was loved by many in both Portland and at the restaurant. My siblings and I will never forget the sacrifices she has made for us as an Asian-immigrant mother, and my family will forever remember the chirpy person she was despite bearing so many hardships on her own. She loved sewing her bright-colored pink aprons to wear at work, she absolutely adored our family pets including her precious koi fish in the restaurant pond, and she loved bringing family and friends together with her cooking every time she visited Portland. She has always been frugal her whole life living for her children and only recently was she able to enjoy shopping and self-care as a woman does. It pains us all to know that she never made it to the point where she could wear or use the gifts that we bought her, or the things she bought for herself. Her life was taken too soon as she was never able to fully enjoy it for the purpose of herself.

This fundraiser aims to completely go towards my mom's funeral and a memorial for her at the restaurant. Any remainder funds will be used to help ease the financial burden on our family that comes with the closure of their business as well as losing my mom, who was the head of the household. Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thank you for listening to her story.
