Showa Summer Program in Tokyo Japan

Hi Everyone,
As many of you may know, I am currently a first-generation student at Newbury College in Brookline, MA working on my bachelor’s degree studying Psychology and Social Science as a Junior.
A few weeks ago, numerous faculty members sought me out to be a potential candidate for a summer program through my school as a representative of Newbury… and I’ve been accepted as of this past Monday the 6th! Every year, 3-4 female students are selected to travel abroad for the Showa Summer International Program (SSIP) located in Tokyo, Japan. The purpose of this trip is to learn about the Japanese culture and studying in a multicultural setting, consisting of Japan studies and cross-cultural workshops. Lectures, fieldtrips, and short homestays with Japanese families will give me the chance to truly learn about this culture and their societal ways in both a contemporary and traditional setting. A collaborative research project will be constructed by all students throughout the stay and presented, representing different cultural backgrounds and concluding their findings at the end of the program.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel to a place where there is much to learn during a three week span that would surly enhance my experience as a student, as well as impact my life greatly. I’ve grown to be someone who takes on every challenge or obstacle and make a positive contingency for myself, as I feel extremely fortunate that my hard work has lead me to this possibility to futher my education outside of the classroom. With any help of friends and family gathering fanatical support for my trip, I can take this chance I’ve been given and make it a reality. I’m asking for any donations that will specifically be used for my passport, flight tickets, and incidentals expenses that are necessary for the program.
