Wij zijn Philip en Joost, regisseur/schrijver en producent van de korte absurdistische horror/psychologische thriller 'De Traditie'. In deze film willen wij in 10 minuten het verhaal vertellen van een jonge naïeve student die vanuit familietraditie lid wordt van een prestigieuze studentenvereniging, maar tijdens een gruwelijke traditie van de ontgroening beseft dat hij hier niet meer bij wil horen.

Waarom willen wij dit verhaal vertellen? Goeie vraag

Schandalen bij ontgroeningen van studentenverenigingen zijn de afgelopen decennia zeer regelmatig aan het licht gekomen. Sinds de serie 'Feuten' en de film 'Niemand in de Stad' is er echter geen film meer gemaakt die dit onderwerp behandelt. Wij denken dat wij met een korte thriller/horror deze actualiteit het beste in beeld kunnen brengen, om publieken over de hele wereld te choqueren met een verhaal dat geïnspireerd is door waargebeurde incidenten binnen één van deze eeuwenoude clubs in Nederland.

Daarnaast dragen onze eigen ervaringen ook bij aan de authenticiteit van de film: zowel Joost en ik zijn lid geweest van een studentenvereniging en hebben de ontgroening meegemaakt. Hoewel die van ons gelukkig geen 'horror-ontgroening' was, kunnen we esthetisch wel veel inspiratie halen uit deze ervaringen. Hierom zien wij onszelf dan ook als makers die in een unieke positie staan om dit verhaal zo echt mogelijk te vertellen.

Bij een succesvolle productie zal de film het filmfestival-circuit opgaan en gestuurd worden naar agents en producenten binnen de industrie. Hier hopen wij dat hij opgepikt en erkend wordt als proof-of-concept voor een langere (bioscoop)versie, waarvan we het script al klaar hebben liggen!

Voor de productie van de film hebben wij echter nog budget nodig. Denk aan geld voor het huren van camera-apparatuur, het afhuren van een filmlocatie, aanschaffen van decor & kleding: noem het maar op. Hiervoor hebben we dus nog aardig wat nodig; momenteel proberen wij 10.000 euro op te halen.

Dear Potential Donor,

We are Philip and Joost, director/writer and producer of the short absurdist horror/psychological thriller The Tradition. In this 10-minute film, we aim to tell the story of a young, naïve student who, following a family tradition, joins a prestigious student society. But, during a gruesome initiation ritual, he realizes he no longer wants to be part of it.

Why do we want to tell this story? Good question

Scandals surrounding student society hazing rituals have surfaced regularly over the past few decades. However, since the TV series Feuten and the film Open Seas (Niemand in de Stad), no film has tackled this subject. We believe that a short horror/thriller is the ideal medium to bring this issue to life; shocking audiences around the world with a story inspired by real incidents within one of The Netherlands' centuries-old student clubs.

In addition, our own experiences contribute to the film's authenticity: both Joost and I have been members of student societies and have gone through initiation. While ours, fortunately, was not a "horror hazing," we can still draw strong aesthetic inspiration from those experiences. That’s why we see ourselves as uniquely positioned to tell this story in the most truthful way possible.

If the production is successful, the film will enter the festival circuit and be submitted to agents and producers in the industry. Our hope is that it will be picked up and recognized as a proof of concept for a full-length (feature) version, for which the script is already finished!

However, to produce the short film, we still need a budget. This includes renting camera equipment, securing a filming location, purchasing set design and costumes... you name it. We're currently aiming to raise €10,000 to make it happen.
