Help Ustadh Luqman Luis Jijon Rebuild His Life
A Devoted Teacher, A Harsh Winter, and a Struggle for Survival
My name is Kamal Southall, and this fundraiser isn’t for me; it’s for someone who is a beautiful soul and has done a lot of good in the world, and whose art and writing I have admired.
But first, I would like you to imagine for a moment that you have spent your life seeking and teaching sacred knowledge, dedicating yourself to preserving the wisdom of the scholars before you. You have translated classical Arabic texts, written books, guided students, and shared knowledge meant to illuminate hearts and minds.
Now, imagine that after years of sacrifice, you suddenly find yourself alone, cold, and forgotten.
Please imagine being slandered and falsely accused—people whispering behind your back, calling you what you are not. "Shia," they say, though you are 100% Sunni.
Now, just imagine how unfair it feels, how much it pains you to see your reputation tarnished, your life’s work disregarded, all while you struggle just to find a warm place to sleep.
Now, my friend, picture yourself in the depths of winter, your legs covered in excruciating sores from a chronic illness, walking the streets at night with no shelter, no bed, no home. Every step burns with pain, yet you have nowhere to go. The town’s shelters are full, and the doors remain closed. Every shelter has a waiting list, and even the Masjid doesn’t allow overnight sleeping.
Picture all of this, and imagine the world moves on around you, yet almost no one stops to help.
This is the heartbreaking reality of Ustadh Luqman Luis Jijon, a seeker of knowledge, a teacher, a scholar, and an artist as a Master Calligrapher and painter, who now finds himself sleeping on the streets, suffering through bitter cold, with no safe place to rest.
A Life of Sacrifice, A Crisis of Survival
Ustadh Luqman’s hardships began when he went through a heartbreaking divorce. Instead of fighting for material possessions, he chose to leave his home and belongings behind to ensure his ex-wife had what she needed. He then moved in with his mother to care for her during her final illness, standing by her side until she passed away. But when she was gone, he lost the last place he could call home.
Despite his brilliance and scholarship, he was forced to sell the rights to all of his books for a small sum just to pay bills and provide for his family before his divorce. Now, he has nothing left.
His record of good work is extensive:
✅ Involvement in digging wells in Pakistan, bringing clean water and life to rural communities.
✅ Helped support vulnerable orphan children with love, care, and educational support.
✅ Participated in feeding the homeless programs in multiple states from New York to Georgia.
Ustadh Luqman’s work has helped provide hope and sustenance, both spiritual and physical, to those in need – and now he is in need himself!
Still, there is hope: he has been offered a position as a Mosque Imam, where he can once again serve his community. But this position will not start until later in the spring. He has also been offered a room in a boarding house but doesn't have money for the rent—but he cannot reach that future without immediate help.
He Needs Us Now—Before It’s Too Late
Ustadh Luqman needs urgent assistance to cover:
✅ Shelter – A warm, safe place to sleep until he can start work
✅ Food & essentials – To sustain his health and dignity
✅ Medical care – Treatment for the sores on his legs
✅ Transportation – To begin his new job and regain stability
You Can Be His Lifeline
If you have ever benefited from the guidance of a teacher, if you have ever turned to knowledge for light in dark times, please do not let this Ustadh suffer alone.
Even a small donation can make an enormous difference. It can mean a night off the streets, a hot meal, a step toward healing. But if you cannot donate, please share this campaign so others may help. The funds will be used to help him rent a room in a rooming house, to pay for medical care for his wounds, and to have food, bus, and taxi fare until he is firmly established in his new job.
Let's be the support Ustadh Luqman needs — and may Allah reward you for your kindness.
