Shawns Brain Cancer Battle

Donation protected
Hello friends and family - we are seeking your support for Shawn Jones and his family to help fight his battle against brain cancer.

Shawn is truly an incredible human being - he is a dedicated father to his sweet baby boy, a devoted husband to his wife, a caring son, a loving brother, and a true friend to so many. Anyone that knows Shawn, has a story to tell of his unwavering friendship and of course his sense of humor.

At the young age of 30, Shawn’s life was suddenly turned upside down. On April 1st, 2020 at 4:00am Shawn had a grand mal seizure and was taken to Bronson hospital. After numerous scans and testing, it was found that the seizure was caused by a large tumor in the left temporal lobe of his brain.

After being in-patient for 5 days, Shawn was discharged from Bronson. Shawn and his family then made the decision to seek treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. After consulting with a neurosurgeon, the decision was made to attempt to remove as much of the tumor as possible.

Shawn went into surgery on April 16th, 2020 for a left temporal lobe craniotomy resection to remove the tumor. The surgeons were able to remove much of the tumor without complications, and he was released from the hospital 3 days after surgery. Fortunately, Shawn was allowed to leave Mayo for the time being, and he is currently recovering at home in Kalamazoo, MI with his wife Gilly and son Connor.

On April 30th, Shawn received his diagnosis. Shawn has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer referred to as a Stage II Oligodendroglioma. Oligodendrogliomas are slow growing, incurable brain tumors, that account for only 2-4% of all brain tumors.

Shawn and Gilly will be meeting with both the neuro oncologist and radiation oncologist to figure out the next steps in Shawn’s treatment, which typically include chemotherapy and radiation.

Shawn and his family do not yet know all of the details, especially the financial burden of this diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. The costs cannot all be clearly articulated now, but we do know that they have an insurance deductible to meet, travel (driving, lodging) expenses to the Mayo Clinic, multiple treatments in and out of network, loss of at least one income and ancillary expenses like childcare, diet and medications etc. As more information becomes available, we will provide updates and possible financial adjustments to this fundraiser.

Shawn and his family are in need of your help during the most trying and difficult time of their lives. Shawn has already proven himself to be a fighter and although his world has just been turned upside down, he has been so incredibly brave throughout everything he has faced already. Please help Shawn and his family as they battle this terrible disease. All funds raised will go directly to the Jones family.

Any amount, large or small, will help and is greatly appreciated.
