Hello- thank you for taking time to read my story. I am a 14 year old girl that developed anxiety and depression while in the 6th grade. I have been receiving treatment for my illness since September 2015.
My team of doctors believe that with my love for animals and my recent diagnosis that a service animal would be a wonderful asset to assist me in day to day live.
I haven't been able to stay in public school due to my high level of anxiety and other symptoms, so I am on home hospital public school which means a teacher comes to my home 1 hour / week. It isn't much, but my mom is trying to get me into an online school. I think that would be great and I will get more education when that happens. I want to go to college and become a pyschiatric nurse, so gaining confidence is something I need to do in order to get more education so I can get into university in the future.
In the mean time, I have taken equine therapy at a local non-profit which has been helpful. One of the therapists there recommended a dog trainer she knew of with 4 sheepadoodles that she is training. This wonderful referral is gifting the dogs to 4 people in need and we have met our wonderful new adoptee we hope to get. Her name is Grace. We are learning how to discipline her and give her support and in turn we know that she will be able to be a wonderful service animal to me.
I am researching various tasks the dog can provide to me so I can gain the confidence needed to allow me to live a fuller life. I am really enjoying the idea of how having a dog may help. I am thankful for my family for helping me through this tough time in my life. Thanks for considering a donation toward my costs to get Grace.
Actually, the dog trainer and her daugher have actually paid all costs to get Grace and pay for their vet services, dog grooming as well as all training. The plan is that we will give $3300 which will allow the dog trainer and her daughter to get another dog and pay it forward so they can provide another trained service dog to someone else in need.
We have been spending time with Grace and the trainer and getting to know the routines of working with Grace. A big theme is calm assertive energy. I hope to get Grace by Christmas. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated.
