WHO ARE WE?
We are FIRST Tech Challenge Team #14486, The ASTEROIDS, from Grand Rapids, Michigan. We are a team of 10 Middle School students in 7th and 8th Grades at Forest Hills Eastern and Central Middle Schools.
WHY ARE WE FUND RAISING?
Of the 616 FTC teams in Michigan we are one of the 15 advancing on to the World Championship, taking place April 29 - May 2, 2020, in Detroit. We are fundraising to cover our entry fee ($2000), to help cover some of our travel costs, and to keep innovating and developing for the next 4 months. We are excited to compete against some of the best teams in the world.
WHAT IS FIRST TECH CHALLENGE?
Teams made up of 10+ members are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete on a 12’ x 12’ field, in an alliance format against other teams. Robots are built on a reusable platform, powered by Android technology, and programmed using a variety of languages.
Guided by Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEAM skills and practice engineering principles, through hands-on learning. Team members realize the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas to achieve common goals. They must also raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach.
