Scott Bidwell Field House
I have had the pleasure of living in Saegertown my entire life. One of the things I have always admired about our community, is the outpouring of love & support that is always shown. No matter what is needed, this community ALWAYS gets behind it. Whether it be a fire truck escort or our beautifully lit bridge. I am counting on your support once again........
I am excited I can finally write this post about some ideas I have been thinking about for a while. On June 2nd I had a meeting with Penncrest School District Superintendent Dr. Timothy Glasspool, Saegertown High School Principal Tom Baker & Saegertown Varsity Football Coach Jim Wolfgang. I presented my ideas to them, they were completely on board & I was given the go ahead to proceed.
So, I will do just that!
Thirty-four years ago, September 19, 1987, at the age of 15, someone incredibly special to me walked for the last time. While making a tackle on a kickoff in a High School football game Scott suffered a spinal cord injury that broke vertebrae C4 & C5. That day forever changed the life of Scott “Beef” Bidwell. But if you know him chances are you have never met anyone with a more positive disposition. His perseverance is undying & his strength & zest for life is an absolute inspiration. Scott is a math teacher at Saegertown High School & has been for twenty-three years. He is a true mentor to his students & is always a supportive presence at sporting events. A lot of hours spent in the hospital with him gave me time to think. What better way for us as a community to show him how much we appreciate what an inspiration he truly is & has been.
In HONOR of Scott the Field
House at the football field will be named SCOTT BIDWELL
Field House. The press box will
also share his name. I believe the field house was built in 2007 or
2008. Little things have been
done to maintain it over the
years. The carpet was old & at the end of this season it sustained water damage & had to be removed. So, the floors need to be redone, drywall on walls & ceilings need repaired as does trim. There needs to be stools
or chairs at the lockers. Coach
purchased a table for the coaches’ office, but it is still in need of
chairs. The white boards he uses
to draw plays on are worn out.
There is also a broken window
that needs fixed. Years ago, it had a weight room they have been
trying to get back in there. There is not adequate storage in the
building, so the pads & outdoor
equipment get stored in the
weight room area. There needs to be a shed placed behind the field house for equipment storage so
it’s not taking space away that
could be utilized by the athletes.
The press box needs painted the stairs need replaced & it needs a
roof. I do not know how coaches
are able to film up there in the
rain & snow.
I would like to THANK YOU ALL
in advance for your support and
generosity! By honoring Scott
MANY athletes will benefit for
years to come!
Like I said in the beginning of this post, the outpouring of love &
support from this community is
always tremendous! That is also
what it is going to take to get this work done. MANY hands lighten the burden. PLEASE watch for
work sessions to be posted. Our
time frame is short & we have a
lot to get done.
The dedication of the field house will be at the Home opener
Friday September 3rd.
We hope to see you there!
GO PANTHERS!
