Scholarships for DC 8th Gr. Trip

My name is Dr. Karen Spaulding, and I am the extremely proud principal of the Pierce Middle School in Milton, MA.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Pierce, it is nestled in the Town of Milton, right next to Boston.  Often times when outsiders think of our town, the assumption is that we serve only families with a strong financial base.  That false assumption often causes people to direct their generosity elsewhere.  However, the truth is that we too have families who are struggling financially just as much as those in neighboring cities.  In addition, I would argue, the social impact of that on a middle school student in our town, in particular, is even greater.  Here, one student who qualifies for free lunch, for example, likely sits next to another student who will never worry about his/her next meal.  Further, when you are the student who "vacations" at the local pool and you are sitting next to the student who just returned from Europe, you receive a constant reminder of your socioeconomic status.  For that reason, I and many other educators and parents in the Pierce community are committed to assist every child in need so that he/she can attend the Pierce Middle School 8th Grade Washington DC trip in April.  Through Go Fund Me, we are hoping to raise $9500 by February 28, 2017.  That plus our other fundraising efforts will greatly defray the cost of the trip for as many as 20 students.  I know you have choices about where to donate.  I also know what it is like to be that child who "vacations" at the local pool.  Please help me get every student to Washington DC- a trip that could change a child's life.  I and the entire Pierce community will be forever grateful.
