Saving Bobby Beach
Bobby has happily lived in Northern Georgia for his whole life. This happy, goofy dog loves coming on adventures through the mountains and going with us everywhere we go. Bobby is almost 8 years old, and he loves going fishing and hiking with his human mom and dad, and his canine brother, Hank :)
On April 17, 2024, his seizures began. He would quickly go from having 1 major full-body seizure to having 17 total major seizures in a matter of weeks. They progressed very quickly, going from having one every other day, to one a day, to having 2 or more within the same 24 hours. Immediately we visited our vet and started him on an anti-seizure medication, but his bloodwork was not telling of the cause of these violent seizures.
His new medication kept the seizures at bay for 1 whole week - and then they began again, just as violently as they started. We doubled his medication dose at the vet's orders, and that has since kept Bobby seizure-free. Each change in his medication led to negative side effects that have taken time to get used to. Bobby has been fighting since April, and fight he continues.
5 weeks later, in June, we noticed he was much more sluggish than normal. We took him to the Emergency Vet, they did bloodwork, and noticed that his red and white blood cell counts were dropping to a dangerous level.
The emergency vet suspected that it was a rare side effect of his anti-seizure medication and ordered that we taper him off and switch him to a different anti-seizure medicine. We started the taper schedule, and noticed him decline still. Bobby was hot to the touch and did not want to move. We went back to the vet as soon as possible.
This has been very difficult, as we are currently staying almost 2 hours away from our vet during to personal reasons.
After spending a full day at the vet, we got the call that his red blood cell counts.....had dropped even further. His body is no longer regenerating red blood cells. He is in need of a blood transfusion to save him and a bone marrow biopsy to determine why his body is not regenerating red blood cells.
Once he heals from those procedures, with your help, we will be able to begin the diagnostic journey to find out what is actually causing the seizures and where his infection is. The current vet is not able to perform any further diagnostics about the cause of his seizures.
He will need to see multiple specialists (neurologists and others) and likely have an MRI and other diagnostic procedures to find the cause that the seizures are a symptom of.
We have maxed out our current carecredit limit due to emergency vet visits, and we are desperately in need of help making this happen for Bobby. The immediate need is $3000 for the blood transfusion and bone marrow biopsy. I will update this as we learn more about the costs moving forward.
All we want is to be able to keep this happy boy right here with his family
