Save the Temporarily Unhoused by 11-25-2023

Hey y'all, my name is Morgan, and I am raising funds to prevent my family from being temporarily unhoused. My goal with this fundraiser is to keep my family housed through the holidays and through January of 2024. I am raising funds because our insurance based ALE (Additional Living Expense) runs out this Saturday, November 25th, 2023!

On July 16th, my family and I were awakened by our condo's upstairs neighbor's bathtub flooding into our bathroom, caving the ceiling in. Luckily no one was hurt, but it was quite the scare! As a result of the flood, our bathroom has been completely destroyed. While the flooding was not our fault, we have been made to feel as though it was and have received very little support from the proper agencies and authorities. After months of red tape obstacles, we were finally rehoused on October 5th, 2023. Unfortunately, there was an additional leak found, which severely slowed the mitigation and build-back process.

While I am in pursuit of taking civil legal action against the at fault parties involved, that is a process that will take many months to resolve. However, through the legal steps I have taken, some progress has been made. We have been assigned a foreman, and our build back walk through is scheduled for December 7th, 2023. Unfortunately, we were told that the bathroom would likely not be completed until the end of January 2024 (yes, I know, super ridiculous that it would even take this long to fix such a small bathroom but here we are! Never buy a condo or townhouse in DC!)

The cover picture for this campaign is the current state of our bathroom. It is the only bathroom in the home, so we cannot move back into our condo as there is no working toilet, shower, nor sink. Please help our family this holiday season and give some support to keep us housed at the current Air BnB we have relocated to.
