Save Lucky: Urgent Care for Indigo's Beloved Bunny

Hi everyone.

If you know me you know how much my beloved bunny means to me. He is my best friend and has been by my side for almost 8 years now. Lucky/Lucki came into my life when he was just a baby, and changed my whole world.

About seven months ago, I noticed Lucky had a watery eye with some discharge. He has always been a very healthy bunny, so this worried me. For those of you who don’t know, rabbits teeth are extremely important to stay on top of, as their health dictates so much of their overall health. Bunnies are notorious for hiding sickness, and often only display symptoms in extreme cases. I took him to the vet and was given eye drops. Then, it progressed to sneezing fits, gagging sounds, lethargy/lack of interest in most things, extreme teeth clenching and generally just not acting like himself. With multiple visits to different vets, antibiotics, etc, there are still no real answers for his case. I have been told to find a rabbit specialist, because it could be so many different things. A tumor, a nasty infection, a dental abscess, etc. Unfortunately, there are not many exotic vets anywhere near us. It’s been hard to visit so many places and walk away feeling like I knew more about bunnies than the professionals.

Again, with teeth being so important, I am adamant on getting a scan of them, as well as his whole entire body in case it is another issue. I called all the vets that mentioned bunnies on their websites within a 4 hour distance, all of which have insisted he would be put to sleep in order for me to get a CT scan of his teeth. This is not necessary for a CT scan, and even the bunny rescue I spoke with was adamant about this, with his age I am not willing to risk putting him under anesthesia for something like a scan. This is why a specialist is vital for us at this point. With help of a local rabbit rescue, I have been recommended a rabbit specialist a few hours away from us. We have him booked for the second week of October, but the cost of transportation, a place to stay, as well as the appointment itself/past appointments, I am pretty overwhelmed and at a loss. It pains me so much to see my normally very happy, healthy bunny in pain and not knowing what is going on or how to help him. His gagging noises are something I have never heard out of him, or any bunny at that. I am terrified. We are in need of help in order to get him the care he needs as soon as possible.

I appreciate all prayers, gratitude and any form of help. My bunny, in my opinion, is the kindest, most brilliant animal I have ever had the privilege of knowing. He is so much more than a pet to me. I am extremely desperate to get him feeling like his old self again. His health is vital to me.
