My name is Sumaiya Islam Shanta. I live in Liverpool, Sydney, Australia, and my family is originally from Bangladesh. I am organizing this fundraiser to support my aunt, who is currently undergoing critical treatment for chronic kidney disease(CKD) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
My aunt is 48 years old and has been dependent on dialysis for nearly three years, as both of her kidneys are almost 90% damaged. She undergoes dialysis three times a week. Recently, she was admitted to the emergency department after developing severe water accumulation in her lungs along with a bloodstream infection. With immediate treatment, the water in her lungs has reduced significantly, and doctors have confirmed that her organs are not infected. The infection is suspected to be linked to a recent blood transfusion and remains under medical monitoring.
In addition to kidney failure, she is also managing thyroid issues, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, anemia, and unstable blood pressure. She is currently admitted to Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka, where she is receiving strong antibiotics and other essential medications. There was a period when her condition was so critical that she could not communicate properly or remain mentally aware. With continued treatment, she has now regained consciousness and is able to speak for short periods.
Despite everything her body has endured, my aunt’s mental strength and will to live remain strong. Her dialysis fistulas are in good condition, and her medical team has advised us to actively prepare for a kidney transplant, which we intend to pursue as soon as her infection is fully controlled and she is medically cleared. This transplant is not a distant idea for us; it is the path we are working toward to give her a real chance at a stable life.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to support both her ongoing treatment and the preparation for a kidney transplant, including dialysis, hospitalization, medications, diagnostic tests, and transplant-related expenses. Our family has already exhausted our financial resources while trying to keep her treatment uninterrupted, and continuing this journey alone has become extremely difficult.
My goal is to ensure that her treatment continues without delay and that we are financially prepared to move forward with the transplant when doctors give the green light. Every contribution will go directly toward her medical care. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser or keeping her in your thoughts and prayers would mean just as much to us.
If anyone would like further details or wishes to see her medical reports, I’m happy to share them privately.
