Sara’s Fight Against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

Meet Sara, our 16-year-old niece, attending grade 10 at Roncalli Central High. Sara is a quiet, very sweet young lady and very lucky to have many great friends and a very close-knit family, and right now, she needs every one of them rooting for her. Sara has been given the news no one wants to hear. She has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Here is Sara’s story….. she had been feeling unwell for a few months; after some preliminary bloodwork, she was directed to the Janeway Children’s Hospital for further testing. After undergoing these tests, Sara was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and will be entering a long, challenging course of treatment. When you get this kind of news, the first thing you think of is what can you do, how can we help?

Well, Sara needs her Dad. She needs all of her family in one house with all their love and support to help her fight this horrible fight! Like many Newfoundlanders, Sara’s dad, Derek, has had to relocate permanently to Ontario for work. She needs her Dad to help her fight this battle. She needs all her friends and family’s support to hold her hand and be there for her as she goes through her treatments and everything that goes with that. It will be a long hard road for a 16-year-old girl, and having her Dad home will help her more than we could ever express.

A great deal of additional expenses are incurred when a loved one is in the hospital during a long illness or when receiving treatments. The financial hardship of having to fly back and forth from Ontario to Newfoundland to be there for your 16-year-old daughter as she fights cancer and to support the rest of the family emotionally, along with the additional expenses of travel going back and forth to the hospital, food, lodging, and the list is endless.

The very last thing the family needs to worry about at this time is how to make this happen. Please help us relieve some of the burdens for Kim, Derek, Sara, Casey and Kaitlyn.
