Help Sandra Young with Nursing Home Expenses

My name is Donna Haughney, a dear friend of Sandra Young.

Sandra is living in Ajijic, Mexico in a nursing home called Casa Nostra. She has been there for the past year after recovering from a serious medical condition. Unfortunately, Sandra is unable to live on her own now and does not have the funds to cover all her expenses at the home. Her social security covers less than half of the fee which is $1,500 a month. The funds raised will be used to pay the monthly difference directly to the home.

For those of you that know Sandra, she is a strong, independent woman and it has taken a while for her to accept her current situation. She had to give up her lovely dog Samantha last year and lives pretty simply now at Casa Nostra.

As most of you know, Sandra was a librarian and still loves reading, loves films and TV, and is a great animal lover, with lifetime relationships with many needy dogs. Some of you will remember how Sandra consistently kept five to six hummingbird feeders up and running for many years. The San Miguel chapter of the Audubon Society held hummingbird seminars and lectures at her house and many experts dropped by to talk with her about her sightings.

After her career as a librarian ended, Sandra started a very successful coffee business in the Bay Area. She moved to Mexico in 1995 and worked for many years building custom homes. Sandra always treats everyone fairly and equitably regardless of their nationality or social position. She loves her adopted country and was able to achieve citizenship. She loves to speak Spanish with her Mexican friends and caretakers.
