Sam Dixon Fire Recovery Fund

On the evening of Friday, December 7, 2018, my father-in-law, Sam Dixon, lost his family home and everything he owned in a fire.  Sam was downstairs on his computer when he smelled smoke.  Hoping the smell was coming from outside, he looked out the back door and saw smoke coming out of his upstairs bathroom window.  He immediately went upstairs but, upon opening his bedroom door, was overcome by the smoke and forced to run outside.  The house, which was built by Sam's great-grandfather in the 1800s, was fully engulfed in a matter of minutes.  By the time the volunteer fire department arrived, nothing could be saved.  Sam lost absolutely everything but the clothes on his back and his car.  

We are so incredibly thankful that Sam escaped the fire without injury.  That, of course, is the most important thing; however, regrouping and rebuilding will be difficult for him. 

Many people have reached out to us and have asked how they can help.  Unfortunately, Sam did not have insurance to cover the property loss and he does not have the financial means to pick up and rebuild on his own.  He has moved in with us for the foreseeable future and has his basic needs for food and clothing taken care of.  Ultimately, however, he hopes to move back out to his family property in Vaughan, which has been in his family for generations. Therefore, we are starting this fundraiser to help him raise money to either purchase a mobile home or build a modest house on the property.  Any and all help toward this end goal is greatly appreciated and no gift is too small.
