Our Church, the Salem Baptist Church was established in 1870. At 151 years, it is one of the oldest congregations in the State of New jersey. Over the years we have provided a plethora of services to the community. Ranging from Child Care, After School Programs, Food and Clothing Exchange Services, a Community Development Corporation that has restored historic structures and developed housing, the Salem Baptist Church has been involved in every facet of Individual and corporate responsibility. We still maintain nearly 1000 members and families in our membership, but our effectiveness and ability to thrive as we once did is challenged.
Due to the pandemic and a significant loss in revenue, our beloved structure is in desperate need of repair. The spire, once providing a beacon light to sailors along the Hudson River in the 19th and early 20thcentury suffered terrible damage due to a late Fall 2020 storm. Estimates range from150 – 275 thousand dollars. The high interior cathedral ceiling was damaged due to the storm residual effects with water lodging in areas that had been heretofore secure. These and a few other repairs are necessary for us to continue this great work for years to come.
In these times we have remained opened for services to our community and our membership. All pandemic protocols have been observed for every service of every sort. We have been cited as a model of how churches should proceed during these difficult times. In addition, we cling to our belief in religious freedom and are grateful that our leadership has been in agreement with the notion that “faith is essential.”
As we seek to address the beatification of our glorious physical edifice, we are asking that you or your corporation would consider making a contribution toward our goal of restoration and continued service to all humanity. Your charitable contribution is tax deductible and your interest in assisting us would be of mutual benefit to all.
