Ryan Poteet Funeral Expenses

Ryan Poteet was diagnosed with Hajdu-Cheney Syndrome (HCS) when he was 7 years old.  Hajdu-Cheney Syndrome is a rare connective tissue disorder. Connective tissue is strong fibrous tissue that supports and joins other body tissues and parts. Abnormal development of bones, joints, and teeth also occurs. A decrease in bone mass and changes in the skull and jawbone are also features of this syndrome.   An osteolytic syndrome with skull deformities, characteristics facies, osteoporosis, premature loss of teeth, joint laxity, short stature, dissolution of the terminal phalanges, hearing loss, and a hoarse voice. Most patients have a normal mental development but some are mildly retarded. Ryan fought a tough battle  with Hajdu-Cheney Syndrome as over the years he had many surgeries and difficulties to overcome. 

 Ryan had an amazing strength and determination that was like no other and was an inspiration to all who knew him.  He knew that he was living a blessed life and that God was with him in every battle he faced.  Ryan had a very strong devotion to God and knew the power of prayer created miracles.   Ryan was very active in his church, Pinecrest Baptist in Portsmouth, VA. 

Ryan was unable to play and do things like most kids and adults, but he had a love for breakdancing, playing golf,  watching NASCAR and the New England Patriots and had a beautiful talent for writing poems and music.  

Ryan was also an Ambassador for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He had his wish granted in 2003 and enjoyed helping to raise money for other kids to have their wishes granted.   

Ryan passed away February 11th at the young age of 22.  His family is faced with previous medical bills as well as his funeral cost.  This page has been set up to assist his family with these expenses.  Thank you for your support!
