Hi Everyone!
On November 2nd, we will be running the NYC marathon in memory of our beloved friend, Vivian Chen, and to fundraise for the V Foundation to support the many others in their battle against cancer.
Born and raised in Queens, New York, Vivian was a loving girlfriend, devoted dog mom, driven realtor, and the kindest friend who always took the time to be there for all of us. Though Viv is no longer with us, her love, laughter, and courage continue to inspire us every day. This run is for her - to carry her memory forward and to support the countless others who deserve hope, healing, and a cure.
Viv’s cancer journey was a reminder to all of us: Even though life can be cruel and unfair to the best of us, we should remain resilient, hopeful, and most importantly, grateful for the people around us and the small moments that make up our everyday lives.
“These days, I try to focus on the good. I still smile a lot. People say I always have. Cancer is tough, but it has taught me that unconditional love from friends and family is the most valuable thing in the world.”
We chose to run for Team V (for Vivian of course!) in support of the V Foundation's mission: to fund game-changing research and scientists to accelerate victory over cancer. Since its inception, the V Foundation has funded nearly $400 million in cancer research grants and has grown to become one of the premier supporters of cutting-edge cancer research. This funding has enabled researchers to contribute to over 1,000 clinical trials. Vivian was diagnosed with small bowel cancer, a rare form of cancer that accounts for less than 1% of all new cancer cases in the U.S. Unfortunately, this means that there is significantly less research and clinical data available, making it challenging for doctors to develop standardized treatment protocols. Cancer research and clinical trials offer hope in discovering targeted therapies and developing tailored treatments - giving others like Viv a renewed chance at better outcomes.
The V Foundation's story and motto ("Don’t Give Up…Don’t Ever Give Up!") also beautifully reflects Viv’s spirit. Despite the mounting challenges she faced throughout her cancer journey, Viv fought with remarkable fortitude and never let the disease define her. She chose to live fully, love deeply, and share her light and positivity with everyone around her.
We invite you to join us on our journey of carrying on Viv’s spirit to help others. No donation is too small or too big! Thank you so much in advance. If you’re around NYC in November, hope to catch you on the streets cheering us on through the 26 mile/42km struggle!
Best,
Eric, Jason, Brett and Steven
If you want a tax receipt for your donation, please donate directly to the V foundation via one of our profiles (we will split the funds accordingly later).
