But what was meant to be a routine kennel stay while her parents took a short vacation turned into every pet owner’s worst nightmare.

When Beth and Jacob picked Ruby up from Litterhof Kennel in Gilford, NH, they were met not with a happy tail-wagging welcome, but with a heartbreaking sight. Ruby was barely able to walk. The sparkle in her eyes was gone. She was visibly sick—critically sick, her breathing was labored, she wouldn’t eat or drink, and the kennel offered no explanation beyond blaming her food.

Within hours, Ruby was rushed to the emergency vet and placed in an oxygen isolation crate, diagnosed with advanced pneumonia. The vets confirmed what they already feared: this didn’t just start that morning. Ruby had likely been struggling for days without proper care or attention, and the kennel never called.

Since then, she’s been fighting for her life. She hasn’t eaten in over five days, is now on a feeding tube, and has blood in her lungs. Her fever ebbs and flows, and she still cannot breathe on her own.

Each visit is heartbreaking—her parents can only touch her through a small access portal. And yet, even in her weakest moments, Ruby still perks up when she sees her people. She even had a chance to FaceTime with her best boy, Logan, who called from duty just to see her sweet face. Despite small flickers of hope—her condition remains fragile and uncertain.

This family is devastated. Their world has stopped while Ruby fights to keep going. They are doing everything possible to save her—including considering a transfer to a specialty hospital in Maine if her condition worsens.

Ruby’s vet bills are climbing up quickly-but this family’s love and commitment to Ruby knows no bounds. They’re doing everything in their power to save her. And while Beth and Jacob would never ask for help, their community of friends and loved ones want to lift some of the weight off their shoulders.
