Royal British Legion Silent Soldiers
You may be aware that two of the six Tommie’s we made for Fleet, Crookham and District Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) in 2017 have been vandalised and needed extensive repairs to get them back on parade for Remembrance Sunday. They are a symbol of what our ancestors and veterans went through in two world wars and other conflicts and help to raise awareness of the RBL’s work, especially the vital Poppy Appeal. The RBL has said they would like to commission replacement Tommie’s, as even those that weren’t vandalised are now showing their age. But we would like to find a way to do that for free.
Church Crookham and Fleet Mens Shed are more than happy to make the new Tommie’s, and we are asking the community to help us, by donating towards the costs of the materials. This will mean that the RBL can allocate vital funds to other areas of their work.
If you are a local business and would like to sponsor £50 for a Tommie we will engrave a nameplate with you business name and logo and attach to the baseplate.
Any excess funds would be used for extra Tommie’s, if needed, or donated to the RBL.
Come on Fleet and Church Crookham, please show our support for our fallen and those who continue to need help. Thank you.
