Rodney Needs Your Help for Cancer Treatment
Don protégé
Rodney Brooks is a 56-year-old nurse who has dedicated his life to working in skilled care facilities, helping people who can’t help themselves. Rodney worked as a floor nurse all the way to administration. In 2023, Rodney moved back home to Texas and took a job as a floor nurse once again at a skilled care facility for veterans. Working with challenging patients is Rodney’s passion and something he enjoys a great deal. The position involves rotating 12-hour shifts and is extremely demanding as he is on the floor that deals with military patients with PTSD, dementia, and Alzheimer’s.
In December 2024, Rodney came home from work and said he had some weakness on his left side. Rodney works 12-hour shifts, so on his next day off, he asked to be taken to the ER as his weakness worsened. He was immediately rushed back, thinking he may have had a stroke. The local hospital said something neurological was going on, so they sent him to a more specialized hospital where they found a mass on his frontal lobe.
Rodney underwent brain surgery and, thanks be to Jesus, they were able to remove the mass in its entirety. Unfortunately, the pathology came back, and the diagnosis was metastatic melanoma, and they could not find the source. Through the pathology, Rodney was told it was stage IV metastatic melanoma.
Rodney was put on a treatment plan of immunotherapy with dual medications, with an initial 3 infusions every 3 weeks, then 2 years of maintenance infusions. The oncologist has stated that Rodney has a 2/3 possibility of going into remission. The shock hit when the first bill came in for the infusions. The cost of immunotherapy medication #1 is $87,800, and medication #2 is $41,794. Insurance covers a great deal of it; however, the amount Rodney is responsible for is $6,600. So we are expecting after every infusion to get a bill for $6,600, and with maintenance dosing, we are discussing how long we can keep this up. You never want to have to make a decision over living and being in financial hardship. The decision should be a no-brainer… living, right!!!
So I am asking for any help for an individual that dedicated his life to helping others to alleviate this financial burden so Rodney can live the best life possible for as long as possible.
Thank you and God bless.
