Ricky Augsbach

Hello, my name is Amy Hrbek Dellentash and we are raising funds for our dear friend, Richard (Ricky) Augsbach. Anyone who knows Ricky, knows that he would give you the shirt off his back if it would help you. He is one of the best people we have ever met. Today we are sharing Ricky's story because he is in need of your help.

In January 2023 Ricky was diagnosed with Superficial Siderosis (SS), an ultra rare disease with only 270 reported cases in scientific literature. In essense, it affects 1 in 1,000,000 people. Superficial Siderosis is a degenerative disorder which affects the brain and spinal cord. Unfortunately, Ricky's disease is aggressive and he is presently suffering with significant decreases in hearing, vision and mobility. He also is unable to swallow, which has resulted in the placement of a feeding tube. As a consequence of the rarity of this horrible disease, the medication Ricky needs is not approved by the FDA for SS. Ricky needs this medication to stay alive and hopefully stop the progression the disease and his symptoms. Because Federal funding is not available, the out of pocket expense for this medication is $1,500 for a 25 day supply. Ricky will have to stay on this medication for life.
