Reuniting Haitian mother and daughter
Donation protected
I am sharing this today on behalf of my adopted daughter, Lovencia. She is from Haiti. We met when I was doing relief work after the 2010 earthquake.
This is the story we have always been told and believed: that her birth mother died in an aftershock of the earthquake, that she was buried in a mass grave. We even have a death certificate for her mom. As it turns out, her birth mother, who my daughter has deeply grieved for 12 years…
IS ALIVE!
She and Lovencia were separated in an aftershock where mom was injured. She presumed dead and in a mass grave after efforts of trying to find her for two years. If you know the conditions of Haiti, especially post earthquake, it is not surprising at all for people to go missing and be presumed dead.
Her birth mother also had two other children she was separated from, who were adopted by other families and now live in Paris, France. Her oldest daughter searched for years for her mom and found her in 2015. Since then, they’ve looked for her other kids in hopes to assure mama that her babies are ok.
We want to bring her mama, sister and an interpreter friend of ours to the United States for 2-4 weeks. Lovencia has already made a list of activities and adventures they can take together. She is ecstatic to show her mama the life she lives here. She is going to be so proud of all Lovencia has accomplished, but most of all, the incredible young woman she’s become.
We have passports, visas, round trip flights, hotels, food, and expenses for their stay here to cover. Along with the activities Lovey has planned for them.
A group of us worked on a potential budget and all anticipated expenses. If there are any additional funds left it will go to Lovey’s education and to provisions for her mother.
I’ve watched my daughter grieve her mama deeply for 12 years. Please help us move heaven and earth to orchestrate their reunion and get my sweet daughter into the embrace of her mama once more.
Lovey’s dream is for them to be here by her graduation. It feels impossible to move things that quickly but we are trying everything we can to get their visas expedited.
We hope you not only give monetarily but stay tuned for this beautiful reunion at whatever time that may be.
