Retired Orlando Police Officer Needs Our Help
Deducible
Retired Orlando Police Detective Joel Wright has been battling a rare form of eye cancer since 2017. The cancer recently metastasized to other parts of his body and is life-threatening. The first round of his treatment was not successful as the tumors have progressed. Even though he is now facing new challenges, including clinical trials and other forms of treatment, he is a fighter and has a positive attitude.
For those who don’t know Joel, he began his career at OPD working in Central Patrol. Joel went on to become a Detective and became one of the most well-regarded Homicide Detectives in the state of Florida. As an Internal Affairs investigator, Joel made certain that his investigations were as thorough as a homicide investigation and always preserved the subject officers’ rights. Joel went on to work at the Orlando International Airport where he finished out his 23-year career at OPD.
Joel also spent the better part of 15 years serving his brothers and sisters on the Executive Board of FOP Lodge 25.
In 2019, Joel returned to OPD as a contract employee and is currently working as a background investigator in Recruiting, a job he loves.
This Go Fund Me account has been established by the Orlando Police Heroes Foundation, Inc. 81-5420631 to assist Joel in the expenses he has already incurred in his treatment and to assist in the expenses related to the battles sure to come.
We thank you for supporting Joel in this journey.
