Since 1922 Wanstead's war memorial has stood as a testament to the sacrifice of those from the local area who died fighting for the people of their country. The war memorial now requires significant restoration. The Portland stone has become stained, many of the names of the fallen have worn away, and the base of the memorial is tatty. Our VE Day 80 events set the ball rolling by raising £1,100 towards the cost of restoration, but the truth is, we will need far more than this to do a good job. Please donate generously in remembrance of those who, for our tomorrow, gave their today. Any funds raised in excess of the amount needed will be donated to the Royal British Legion. Thank you. Revd James Gilder, Rector of Wanstead.
