Hello everyone, my name is Gabrielle, and I’m Chelsea’s best friend. I’m asking for your help in supporting Chelsea during a very difficult and unexpected time.
On 01/10/2026, Chelsea slipped and fell on the ice in her driveway, causing a dislocated ankle along with fractures to her ankle and leg. She went to the ER the same day, where the dislocation was stabilized, and she was admitted to the hospital. On 01/11/2026, she underwent her first surgery, where a rod, plate, and screws were placed to stabilize her injuries.
At her follow-up appointment with her orthopedic surgeon on 01/14/2026, it was determined that there had been too much swelling during the first surgery, and she would need a second surgery to place an additional plate on the back of her ankle. That second surgery was completed on 01/15/2026.
On 01/19/2026, a home health nurse recorded Chelsea’s temperature at 102.4°F. Per her surgeon’s recommendation, she went to the ER, where it was discovered that two of her surgical incisions had become infected. She received IV antibiotics and was sent home with prescriptions to continue treatment.
Chelsea applied for FMLA and short-term disability but was denied because she has been at her current job for only six months and would have needed one year of employment to qualify. As a result, Chelsea currently has zero income. She has also been informed that her job is not protected, meaning there is no guarantee she will have a position to return to once she recovers. She is expected to be out of work for at least 12 weeks and is at risk of losing her job, along with her health, dental, and vision insurance.
Right now, Chelsea has no income coming in while facing ongoing medical care, infection treatment, and basic living expenses. The next several weeks are critical as she focuses on healing and preventing further complications, while also trying to maintain housing, transportation, and access to medical care.
Between medications, medical supplies, transportation to follow-up appointments, and everyday necessities like groceries, utilities, and vehicle expenses, the financial strain is already overwhelming without any disability income or job protection. All funds raised will go directly toward essential living expenses and medical needs while Chelsea continues her recovery.
Chelsea has always been the kind of person who shows up for others in their time of need, myself included, and she would never ask for help herself. If you’re able to help, even a small donation today can make a meaningful difference. If donating isn’t possible, please consider sharing this post, as every share helps reach more people.
