Has escuchado de la Operación Peter Pan?
Cuando Fidel Castro entró a Cuba en el año de 1959, los niños y niñas, hijos de los 'enemigos de la patria' que mataron y/o metieron a la cárcel fueron mandados de refugiados a los Estados Unidos, y fue así como muchos cubanos acabaron allá.
Esperanza fue una de esas niñas que tuvo que dejar su hogar y a su familia detrás en medio de la revolución Cubana.
Esperanza a menudo dice que su mantra de vida ha sido:
”Mi nombre es Esperanza y la Esperanza es lo último que
se pierde”. Esta es una historia de coraje, valor y aceptación; de hallar luz en medio de la tormenta. Esta es una historia que inspira a transformar los retos de la vida y el destino, encontrando los hilos de la esperanza que te mantendrán en pie cuando todo se desmorona. Una historia vital en tiempos en donde los temas migratorios y de refugiados están mas vigentes que nunca; una historia que nos invita a reflexionar sobre el valor inquebrantable que es la infancia en el desarrollo de un ser humano, por encima de ideales políticos y
económicos.

¿Have you heard of Operation Peter Pan?
When Fidel Castro entered Cuba in 1959, the children of the
"enemies of the homeland" that were either killed or imprisoned were sent as refugees to the United States and that is how many Cubans ended up there. Esperanza was one of those little girls who left her home and family behind in the middle of the Cuban Revolution.
Esperanza often says that her life mantra has been: “My Name is Esperanza (hope in English) and Hope is the last thing you lose”. This is a story about courage, about acceptance, about
finding light in the middle of the storm. This is a story about turning your life and destiny around. It is a story about finding the thread of hope that will keep you standing when all else
seems to fall apart. This is a vital story for our present times in which migratory and refugee themes are so urgently current. A story that invites us to reflect on the unbreakable value of
childhood in the development of a person, beyond political o economical ideals.

Este trailer es una maqueta con efectos, transiciones, y animaciones temporales. Visualmente, se verá a Esperanza contando su historia mientras alrededor de ella vemos animaciones e imágenes de stock que la ilustran. El estilo de la animación que usaremos será stop motion con imágenes que tendrán el trazo y la inocencia de una niña dibujando con lápices, crayolas, y recortes de fotos familiares. Estamos buscando financiamiento para post-producir este documental
con este estilo, mejorando la calidad de estos elementos, y completando el trabajo de edición y animación visual, y composición musical.

This trailer is a mock-up with temp effects, transitions and
animation. Visually, while Esperanza is telling her story, we will
see animations and stock images illustrating the narrative. The
animation style selected will be stop motion and images
created with the stytle and innocence of a little girl drawing
with pencils, crayons and photo clippings of family albums.
We are looking for funding to post-produce this short film in
this style, while improving these elements, and finishing the
visual edit/animation, and musical scoring.

Esperanza Iraida Rodriguez Lazaga de Noriega (éste es casi su nombre nobiliario después de años de formalidades migratorias) nació en La Habana, Cuba en 1950. Poco se
imaginaba que su vida tomaría un giro inesperado para 1959.
El documental "Mi nombre es Esperanza” cuenta la historia de
la niña Esperanza, quien a los 12 años tuvo que dejar a su familia atrás en Cuba en medio de la revolución Cubana y a
través de la operación “Peter Pan” llegó a los Estados Unidos y
rebotó toda su adolescencia entre Miami, Virginia, y Nueva
York, en donde años después se reunió con su tía Aleida. En
1970 viajó a la ciudad de México donde decidió quedarse y hacer de este país su nuevo hogar.
Nosotros, sus hijos y nieto estamos profundamente orgullosos de la mujer en la que se ha convertido, y agradecidos de poder ofrendar nuestros talentos para contar su historia.

Esperanza Iraida Rodriguez Lazaga de Noriega (this is now her almost nobiliary name after years of migratory formalities) was born in La Habana, Cuba in 1950. Little could she know that her life would take a complete and unexpected turn by 1959. The documentary, “My Name is Esperanza”, tells the story of 12-year-old Esperanza who left her family behind in the midst of the Cuban Revolution through "Operation Peter Pan”. She bounced from Miami, to Virginia, to New York, where some years later she got together with her aunt Aleida. Later on, she traveled to México City where she decided to stay and make that nation her new home.
We, her children and grand child, are immensely proud of the
woman she has become, and honored to now offer our talents to tell her amazing story.
