Our names are Jackie and Tom Macchiaverna from Holmdel, NJ. We are both special education teachers and our lives are already about not shying away from facing challenges, standing up for what's right, and helping others in any way we can. This leads us to our purpose below for initiating a Go Fund Me for someone we met that made an impact on us.

Help Peter and his Family Rebuild After Hurricane Melissa

During our Disney Wish cruise in early November, we had the privilege of meeting Peter Blake, a server whose kindness touched our hearts. While we were celebrating our family vacation, Peter was carrying an unimaginable burden - his hometown of St. Ann, Jamaica had just been devastated by Hurricane Melissa, a catastrophic Category 5 storm.

Our Experience with Peter:

Peter didn't just serve our table during each meal; he genuinely anticipated our family’s needs. He was incredibly personable with our children, making them laugh and feel special throughout our trip. His attention to detail was remarkable. Most importantly, Peter went far beyond his job requirements, while treating us like family rather than just passengers.

What makes Peter's service even more remarkable is that he provided this exceptional care while knowing his own family had lost everything back home.

The Devastating Reality:

Hurricane Melissa struck St. Ann, Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane just before our cruise. Peter's family was forced to evacuate their home, and while we're grateful they survived, they returned to find their house and all their belongings completely destroyed.

*Unlike many places, home insurance doesn't exist where Peter lives. There are no government programs or clear pathways to recovery. His family faces the overwhelming task of rebuilding their entire life from nothing.

Why We're Taking Action:

Peter gave our family memories that will last a lifetime. His warmth, dedication, and genuine spirit made our vacation truly special. Now, while he continues working to support his family, we want to give back to someone who gave so much to us.
