Rally for Robert: Veteran & Father

I’m starting this GoFundMe for my friend Robert Teta, who has endured a staggering list of setbacks as well as a tragedy over the last couple of years.

A divorced, single dad raising a 9-year-old son, Robert lost his middle child to suicide on February 28, 2024. While dealing with that unimaginable emotional blow, he developed nerve problems in both hands, resulting in no feeling in his thumb, index finger, and middle finger in both hands. This forced Robert to have to leave his job to go on disability in May 2024.

Robert underwent surgery in November 2024 to correct the nerve issue in his hands, but he has seen no improvement in his condition. To compound matters, he lost his health insurance in January 2025, retroactive to November 2024. He applied for Medicaid but was denied. He also appealed a ruling from Healthcare.gov but was also denied.

A Type 2 diabetic, Robert has no medical or dental insurance. He has had to go without two of his medications for the last two months, which cost a combined nearly $1,400 a month without insurance. To cover necessities, Robert has had to empty his 401K balance and sold any personal belongings he could. He also just had to spend $2,100 on car repairs, leaving no money for rent.

By starting this GoFundMe for Robert, I’m hoping to expand awareness of his plight and generate a level of support that will help him catch up, get on stable footing, and find hope for the future.

Robert is a military veteran who served in Desert Storm, former police officer, and former teacher. He has devoted much of his adult and professional life to serving others. Now we have an opportunity to serve him.
