Washer/Dryer Van for Homeless
Donation protected
The number 1 request from the homeless
is for clean, dry socks. I have been working with the homeless in the Santa Cruz area for the last 2 years, feeding and praying for them. There is a small group of us at our church wanting to meet this need by driving out on the streets near parks and washing the dirty clothes so that each person can be clean and dry. We want to improve the health standard and dignity of each person experiencing homelessness through a mobile laundromat called "Loads of Love".
The money raised will be used to purchase 2 washers, 2 dryers, 1 power generator and a van to transport the system. In addition to these main parts, power cords, hoses, a water holding tank and other misc equipment will be purchased to complete it. Whenever possible, we will be buying used equipment to maximize the purchasing power of the money raised.
Everything has been priced out and volunteers have been contacted. There is a base of volunteers ready to start as soon as a single unit is put together. I am a mechanical engineer and have put together a design.
This project would not be owned by a person but by a non-profit organization. All donations will be credited through our partner His2Offer.org for tax purposes. H2O regularly feeds the homeless in Santa Cruz and is also responsible for a variety of humanitarian projects in Malawi, Africa.
