Quarantined in Peru: Need Food, Supplies & Prayers
Tax deductible
Gwen and I came to Lima, Peru March 14th to lead New Way workshops to help build community with an amazing group of Venezuelan refugees now living in Lima. We knew we might have to cut our trip short because of the pandemic, but we didn't know that Peru would suddenly close its borders and cancel all flights in and out of the country.
The government here is taking the coronavirus very seriously. They have instituted marshall law for the next 30 days (at least). The streets are barricaded and locked down. We can only go outside if we have been granted permission and have special papers - and then we can only travel to the grocery store or to seek medical help.
The refugee community we are working (around 70 people and some volunteers) is quarantined together. Everyone is healthy, but no one can work. On top of that, local stores are raising their prices. We are eating small and humble meals, and we are grateful.
We are raising money to help buy food and supplies for the people we are living with here. $20 feeds a person for a week. And we are hoping to raise enough to not only provide food for the next two weeks but enough to ensure that this community is taken care of in the upcoming, very uncertain months.
Even though none of us are working for money, the important work of building the beloved community continues! Please chip in anything and everything you can. These people are amazing, and every dollar you give impacts lives in a real and meaningful way!
We are unsure when we will be able to return home. But we will keep you posted. Our kids are with friends and family in the states. They are healthy and happy!
Thank you!
