Marcy's Rally Against Mesothelomia

Hi, I'm Nicole.

Recently my mother, Marcy Mayo was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer that is thought to come from asbestos exposure. Hearing the diagnosis was one of the hardest things I have ever known.

My parents have always been my rock. My dad, the quiet stoic type, always ready with a hug and words of wisdom and advice you need. My mother is one of the strongest people I have ever met. Over the last three years, she has lost both of her grandparents, her twin sister, eldest sister, and youngest brother. Through it all she has remained positive and optimistic in life, through the support of her family and friends. Growing up with one brother, my parents always went above and beyond to make sure Josh and I had everything we needed, even if that meant they went without something they may have needed. Josh and I are so proud of our parents, not only in the way they care for others, but for the immense affection they have for each other.  They stand by one another always, and they are truly soul mates. 

 I wanted to start this page as a way to give back to my parents, for everything that they did for my brother and me as we grew up. With this sickness there will be many trips to Boston, hospital stays, doctor appointments, and treatment centers along with the normal monthly bills that need to be paid while my mom is out of work.  Just the loss of mom’s income is considerable, so any donation amount is so appreciated. No matter how big or small, anything helps.

 So now I sit here, and I ask all of you to take a moment and think of a time that my mom has reached out to you, helped you, talked with you, made you laugh, or was simply there to listen. Please take a moment to share that story as a way to put a smile on her face, and let her know that in a time of sadness, frustration, and fear, there is a reason to smile, there is a reason to fight.
