David (Dave) Kane is a 58 year old Father of 3 boys, who are now all in their 20’s, And has spent the majority of his working life in the Seismic industry In a  variety of technical roles, the majority of his time Has been spent Supporting seismic acquisition crews around the world. For the last couple of years he has worked as a client representative on Marine Seismic crews as a self employed contractor, working wherever the clients required him to go from the Gulf of Mexico, to Azerbaijan and Argentina, Dave was a world traveler.

Like so many other people life has become tougher for Dave and when there was no seismic work for him to go to, he supported himself and his 3 boys as an Uber driver, and when the opportunity arose, took the opportunity to drop in on his friends in Houston for a cup of tea (he had adopted the UK as his cultural home),and a chat with colleagues , waiting for the next call.

In early October Dave was feeling uncomfortable With abdominal pain and a yellowing of the skin so he went to a 24 hour Emergency clinic to see what they could do, and they advised him to go along to ER at his local hospital.
The staff at ER took a look at Dave and immediately checked him in, and he was diagnosed with a failing liver. There are many causes for liver failure, Dave it appeared had a fatty liver, and so the hospital planned to investigate further, and start by removing his gall bladder the next day.

During the preparations for the operation, the doctors discovered that unfortunately he had stage 4 stomach cancer, so an operation was off the cards as his blood levels were unacceptable.

Dave was sent home after spending 10 days in hospital, the short term plan was to drain the liver twice a week and to keep him comfortable.

Unfortunately Dave does not have medical insurance, like so many others who work for themselves in these troubling times, Medical insurance can be out of financial reach as we all deal with a changing economy, reduction in income and an unfortunate rise in many of the bills that we all deal with on a monthly basis.

Dave has many friends around the world, and a considerable number in Houston, and through their efforts a plan was formed to have Dave go to the ER department at MD Anderson, one of the premier hospital systems in the world, and luckily for Dave,. After

spending just 24 hours at home with his three boys, Joshua 20, Harrison 21 and Parker 25, he was admitted as an in patient to the Hospital.

Yet again the fates conspired against Dave, and he tested positive for COVID, and he was transferred to the COVID ward, where he needs to test negative before further investigation into the cancer can take place.

The medical costs for all of this are as I am sure you can imagine astronomical, and we are asking for you to do whatever you can to help Dave get through this battle and help pay his bills.

His career in the Seismic industry has come to an abrupt and unexpected end, and the industry has lost the services of a highly respected and very well liked colleague, client representative and consultant.

As of today, Dave is still in MD Anderson whilst doctors continue
to search for the primary source of the cancer. He is currently on Kidney dialysis as his liver and kidneys are struggling to cope independently. Following a number of procedures today , we hope that that, if successful, a plan for chemotherapy can be put into placeand begin as soon as possible.

Nigel Buck, Dave’s best friend and absolute rock, has come to Houston from his home in the Orkney’s, Scotland, not only to be  Dave’s right hand man In all aspects of his care and personal affairs,
but to support the boys and put them to work on redecorating the house in readiness for Dave return.

Any donation large or small will be truly appreciated in paying for the treatment he is currently receiving but for those to come too.

Please help Dave through this If you can.

Many thanks

Piers
