Help my Niece

Hi, my name is Linda Stewart and I live in San Antonio, Texas. I am asking for financial help for my niece, Brenda Herridge, who lives in San Angelo, Texas. Brenda has always been independent and cared for herself and her son - raising him as a single parent.

In 2011 she started having terrible headaches and her eyesight was affected. She had a brain tumor and when it was discovered she had emergency surgery. She lost most of her eyesight as a result of damage it had already done to her optic nerve. She could no longer work at her telemarketing job. She was placed on disability.

She did not just give up and settle for that. She worked for many years at Lighthouse for the Blind in San Angelo to supplement her income. But, she wanted to do better. Getting someone to believe that a legally blind person can do many jobs was difficult in this West Texas town. She eventually got a job at Good Will Industries hanging the donated clothing on hangers. She developed plantar fasciitis from standing on her feet so much. She got a special boot to wear and was able to continue work although she was in a great deal of pain.

Last Friday, Jan. 5th, she had a stroke that affected her left leg and she cannot stand and walk now. She has been transferred to a Rehabilitation Hospital where we pray they are able to help her regain the use of that leg. She tells me she "has to get back to work"....."she has her bills to pay". And, now she will have medical deductibles and co-payments on top of her monthly bills. She is worried and scared. I have already transferred some money to her account. It will help some but won't take care of what she is facing in the long term. This is why I am reaching out to the community to see if others might be able to share something to help her.

She is only 47 years old and has been hit with so much in her life already. I cannot express how proud I am of her. She is a fighter. She keeps going strong even with all the adversities she has had to face.

The picture is when I took her to San Diego in January 2020 so she could attend her son's graduation from USMC Boot Camp. I made sure they both got to visit San Diego Zoo and Sea World while we were there. Some precious memories.
