UPDATE:
Joe ended up in hospital; again. This time with pneumonia. His PCP placed him on strong antibiotics. Joe is trying to take it easy and is resting. He will be ok.
JOE’S STORY:
Joe suffers from spinal stenosis and needs to have surgery as soon as possible to repair his spine. If he does not get this surgery, Joe will end up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Joe also suffers from neuropathy, There is no cure for this debilitating disease.
Joe was recently laid off from his job at the Royal Lahaina Resort where he had been working for many years. Joe also lost two other gigs:
Sergeants Art Gallery on Front Street and Kingswell Art Gallery also on Front Street; right in the heart of Lahaina. They had to let him go because of the devastating wildfires, that destroyed our beautiful island of Maui.
Many people have suffered and have lost everything. Our hearts go out to them and our prayers as well.
Joe was scheduled to have surgery here in Hawaii on Ohau but that had to be postponed because of the fires. Doctor told him to wait for at least six months. He can’t wait six months! We have to leave Maui and head to the Mainland for surgery.

The more places we can get this GoFundMe posted, the sooner we will be able to achieve our goal and come home.

Please Note:
All funds will be going towards moving our belongings to the Mainland. It takes approximately 6 months. Joe and I will be needing a place to stay in the interim, while we wait for our belongings to arrive.
During the 3 to 6 months, Joe will be recuperating from surgery. He is going to need to get a lot of rest to heal as quickly as possible. We are not sure when Joe will be able to return to work. We are thinking it is best to get an Airbnb as getting an apartment, requires first and last months rent, plus a security deposit. Plus we would have to buy furniture, and all of these items are costly so our best bet is an Airbnb. This way Joe can rest and recuperate from his surgery as our families do not have enough room for us to stay but they will be providing emotional support to help Joe get better soon after surgery.
We will need at least 3 to 6 months funds for housing/living expenses. Housing is our major concern as rentals are extremely expensive in the Bay Area and we need to conserve our funds.
We will also be needing a vehicle as you cannot live on the Mainland without one.
