If you have had the chance to meet Mason (or Moose, Mooser, Mace-Face, Spoose, Spruce-Moose, the nicknames go on and get more obnoxious), you know this pupper is a creature of endless affection and energy. Zach has had the awful misfortune of learning his canine best friend has developed a high grade lymphoma. Zach has been gracious enough to share his experience so far with us on his blog The Mason Protocol and we have been grateful to hear that Mason has reclaimed his usual spirited energy after a few rounds of chemo.
I've observed a wide spectrum of tolerance to this sort of treatment in humans; some do well and some tolerate it very poorly. Regardless of how people respond to chemo, the financial burden of the medicine is constant. Not everyone has access to aid and assistance with these costs, so I've seen these crowd funding websites make a big difference for people with even modest donations.
A group of us met in C'ville recently for the UVA-VT football game. We huddled around a table in one of the Corner bars and Zach caught us up with Moose's progress. We were relieved that he was tolerating the meds so well. Each of us started asking if there was anything we can do to contribute and we had the idea of setting up this fund for Zach so he can have some help with these expensive chemo cycles.
It sounds like Mason has already acheived partial remission and is expected to make even more progress. We're glad to have an opportunity to help out and Zach's told us how humbled he is by the experience so far. So folks, thanks for reading and for anything you can contribute. Do it for Moose!
