Pyrenees Freedom Trail - September 2019
Human trafficking is alive and well in the world today, and it's closer to home than you might think. Even in Scotland, the number of human trafficking cases is increasing year on year, with no sign of slowing down.
207 cases were reported in Scotland in 2017 alone. Dozens of these were children.
Now think of Aberdeen, with its fishing industry, abundance of nearby farms, and more brothels per head than any other Scottish city. All of these industries provide opportunities for modern slavery to flourish, along with every injustice that goes along with it.
Enter City Hearts Aberdeen. Formed in 2017, it aims to create a brighter future for individuals who have been victims of modern slavery, through the provision of support, care, and accommodation.
Our safe house provides a refuge for survivors to rest and recover from the suffering they've endured.
But they need our help.
In order to raise money to equip, staff and run the safe house, a team of volunteers will be pushing themselves beyond the limits of their endurance to walk in the footsteps of survivors of the past.
Set high the Pyrenees, the Freedom Trail acted as an escape route from Nazi-occupied France in WW2. Frequented by victims of discrimination, this trail offered a path to hope and a better life.
The trail however, was not an easy one. Along the path are memorials laid out for the souls who did not survive the journey, and whose dreams of freedom were never realised.
City Hearts Aberdeen exists to bring hope to those who have lost it. To offer freedom to those who are trapped. To help those kept in the dark to find their way into the light again.
Partner with us in making this dream a reality. Please give generously, and let's bring freedom back to those who have had theirs stolen.
