Proyecto Kokobale: Sharing Puerto Rican Heritage

Proyecto Kokobale, led by Carlos Xiorro Padilla and Melissa Santos, is a vibrant cultural group based in Puerto Rico dedicated to preserving and sharing the unique martial arts tradition of Kokobale. This summer, they have been invited to California to perform at Plenazo Tribe's anniversary event, Taller Bula's community day in Long Beach, and Bombazo in San Diego hosted by Bomba Liberte. Traveling with their children and fellow kokobaleros, Anaya and Aram, Carlos and Melissa are committed to bringing the spirit and energy of Puerto Rico’s cultural heritage to new audiences.

This trip is more than just a series of performances—it’s an opportunity to build bridges between communities, celebrate Puerto Rican identity, and inspire pride in cultural traditions. Taller Bula, based in Long Beach, believes that sharing these affirmations of self and nation is vital for both the Puerto Rican diaspora and the broader community.
