Our Story
Our family is facing a situation that has escalated to the point where we need legal protection through a harassment restraining order. What started as uncomfortable interactions has grown into a pattern of targeted harassment directed at our identities as an LGBTQ+ family.
We believe everyone deserves to feel safe and protected, regardless of who they are or who they love. Unfortunately, we've encountered persistent harassment rooted in discrimination against our family's identity. The situation has now escalated to directly impact the safety of our child and foster children in our own neighborhood. The incidents have increased in frequency and intensity, affecting not just our daily lives but our sense of security and well-being.
All we want is to live our lives peacefully and raise our children in a safe environment.
Why We Need Legal Help
After consulting with advocates and legal professionals, we've been advised that pursuing a harassment restraining order is the appropriate next step to protect our family. This legal action will:
- Establish clear legal boundaries
- Provide official documentation of the harassment
- Create legal consequences if the behavior continues
- Help us feel safer in our community
The Financial Reality
Legal representation shouldn't be a luxury that only some can afford, especially when it comes to basic safety. The attorney retainer fee is $2,000, and we need additional funds to cover GoFundMe's transaction fees and related legal costs.
Our goal: $2,500
- $2,000 for attorney retainer
- $500 for transaction fees and additional legal costs
- Any remaining funds will be donated to OutFront Minnesota's Anti-Violence Program
