SAVE THE BEACON – PROTECT OUR HISTORIC COMMUNITY! Save McGinley Square
A New 18-Story Tower Threatens Our Community!
Funds raised will go to pay expenses for our appeal. Your kind donations will help to hire a lawyer to fight for this cause.
Did you know?
Developers plan to build an oversized 18-story high-rise at 591 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, right next to the entrance of our landmark Beacon complex, on land recognized for historic preservation by the state of New Jersey and by the federal government.
What’s at stake?
• If you live within the 10-mile radius of Beacon Community, your traffic commute will become increasingly painful. Emergency access will worsen with no real plan in place. Morning and evening commutes will increase significantly!
• Residents could face dangerous construction impacts such as pollution and noise just feet from their homes.
• Our nearly 100-year-old historic buildings are at risk of structural and façade damage from deep pile hammering and vibration.
• This project was denied by Jersey City’s Historic Preservation Commission, but the Zoning Board approved it anyway!
