Prosthesis & Hospital Expenses for Edward

What happened
Hello all,
My name is Kyle Zemanek and Wednesday night September 11th, I was walking my best friend Edward, who's my beloved Miniature Pinscher.  We were in a well trafficked area of North Hollywood. As I came upon a corner, a small female with a big Pitbull came around from the other way and the Pitbull bolted towards Edward and attacked him.  I was paying attention and had begun pulling him back, but because the female was looking at her phone and not paying attention, the Pitbull had no resistance and reached Edward’s leg.  He would not let go as my Edward screamed in pain. The only way the Pitbull was finally pulled off him was that he ripped half of his bottom leg off.

This is the most horrific and gut-wrenching thing I’ve ever been involved with. I could hear his bones being crushed. I cradled Edward and ran back home and quickly drove to an Emergency Vet.  He had to stay two days and nights at the Emergency Vet and the bottom part of his left hind leg had to be amputated.  I made sure they only amputated what was absolutely necessary, as I plan on getting a prosthesis for him.  I was highly recommended by a vet from another state to seek laser therapy for healing.  He has received two treatments so far.

Costs
Unfortunately, my funds are extremely low and have been for many years.  To try and provide a better life for myself and Edward, I returned to school and am a full-time college student.  Therefore, I am unable to work full-time, and we are surviving off part-time income and student loans.  At the moment, there is a $4,888 expense from the ER,  and $372 for the laser therapy.  I have researched extensively and estimate a prosthesis and more bandage changes/vet visits will cost $1500.  This equals the $6760 total that I am asking for and will need to be paid off by Nov 7th.

This female is liable for these damages, however she left the scene. I do not know who she is or where she lives.  Anyone that knows me, knows that I am extremely self-sufficient and would never ask for help unless I absolutely needed it.  Every penny I am asking for goes to help pay for Edward’s medical expenses and to get him back up and walking again.

The Best Dog Ever
I’ve often joked around that my dog is my soulmate.  Words cannot describe how much I love him and how much he means to me.  He is not just a pet, he is my best friend.  He was such an active dog before this horrible incident.  We often went for runs, hikes, to the beach, climbing rocks, and other excursions.  His little 10lb self could run up to 7 miles with me at times!  I hope to get a prosthetic attachment for him, so his quality of life does not greatly diminish.

I have attached pictures of him after the attack, x-rays, and photos of the bills.  I have also attached 10 photos and video showcasing his life before this happened.  He is such an amazing dog and would never hurt anyone or anything.  He did not deserve this.  Every ounce of physical pain he is going through I am suffering mentally.  I am traumatized by this and will likely never completely recover emotionally.  However, if Edward can heal and get a working prosthesis to run again, it would mean the world to me.

Thank you so much for reading this. I am beyond grateful for any help that is given.  Whether a stranger or a close friend, I will personally thank everyone that donates to Edward’s cause.  Direct donations can be sent via Zelle to: [email redacted] .

Again, THANK YOU
