I am writing this on behalf of my husband Alex. He had a near fatal motorbike accident on the 18th May 2024 riding back from work from Dunkerswell towards Broadhembury . He knew the lane very well and rode it all through the winter in extreme temps and never had a problem .

At 5pm on that day, I got a call from his phone which was odd as knew he would be on his way home. That call changed my families life forever .He was put into a coma roadside and the Air Ambulance transferred him to hospital where he remained in a coma for just over four weeks. He sustained a traumatic brain injury, twenty broken ribs , three blood clots, a collapsed lung , shattered shoulder blade and broken collarbone. He nearly left us roadside and again, 48 hours later . He was a biker for forty years, of which last decade at least has been a ‘grandad rider ‘ and knows the lanes very well . He rode those lanes throughout the winters and was always perfectly safe. He remembers another car speeding towards him, coming round the bend too wide nudging him over into a pothole which then caused the front wheel to lock whilst he was riding at 23 mph, After that, he does not remember too much apart from the medics cutting his leathers off , however medical records show that he landed on his front 15 meters on the other side of the lane with instant catastrophic injuries ,

Despite defying all odds of survival, he now suffers from Chronic Illness
Neuropathy - to us people that take daily tasks for granted, he has major nerve damage in his feet and hands and as he describes it is similar to twenty people constantly bashing your feet and hands with hammers every minute of every day.

Alex is on twenty tablets a day just for the pain which includes eight codiene and top ups of morphine when needed.

He finally got on the waiting list for pain management which was a 12 month wait list until I got in touch with them and they prioritised him as physio could not touch him until the pain is under control but the NHS only have four options they can try and we are very nearing the last option.

I am setting this page up in the hope that we can raise enough money for a private consultant that can advise on an appropriate nerve block treatment so that Alex can have which would involve several treatments over a period of time . Once they finally get the pain under control, then physio can start, something which hasn’t started since his accident .

I gave up my job to become his full time carer for which the situation remains today and for a long time ahead but there was never going to be an alternative option. Alex and I have been married for 23 years, he is my soul mate and my best friend
