Preserve Utah's World-Renowned Flight Park, Point of the Mountain - South Side.
Please take a moment to ensure the continued viability of your public lands for their intended purpose : "The mission of Flight Park State Recreation Area is to provide a safe environment for a variety of air and land-based recreation opportunities and to serve as a hub for the local gliding community."
- A proposed development consisting of 3- and 4-story condos, townhouses, and commercial buildings has the potential to impact the safety of pilots by disrupting the historically-smooth air in the landing zone, training hill, and flying areas.
- LEARN: Preserve the South Site Website
- SIGN: Preserve the South Site Petition
Fluid dynamics simulations of the proposed development must be conducted, prior to construction, to legitimize or alleviate concerns regarding the impact to public health and safety. We would like to accomplish this with a wind study produced by an independent 3rd party and professional firm, 1 wind speed and 3 directions. Estimated cost: $3,500 + tax
Furthermore, for future developments, we would like to replicate the efforts of pilots in 2006 who were able to successfully affect policy change in Draper, on the North Side of Point of the Mountain, by passing zoning laws limiting building heights upwind of that launch and landing zone. Software by UHGPGA "rainy day" fund.
Expenses for this cause may be incurred in the following categories:
- Professional Wind Study - $3,500 + tax (2,940 EUR + vat)
- Legal Fees - $5,000 (Estimate)
- Public Relations - $1,000 (Estimate)
- Media & Promotion - $1,000 (Estimate)
- Communications (Mailing Efforts) - $500 (Estimate)
- Software and Educational Materials - $300 (Estimate)
Note: UHGPGA does not currently have nonprofit status with the IRS [501(c)(3)] but Treasurer Jennet Christensen is looking into it. All funds in excess of the needs of this effort will go towards Project AirtimeTM. Project AirtimeTM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that exists so that EVERYONE can fly, including people with brain and spinal cord injuries, neurodiversity, advanced illness, etc. The South Side provides an excellent training ground for our adaptive pilots in training.
