Off-Grid, Single Mom, Dog Trainer with a Huge Heart Needs Wheels
If dogs had bank accounts and could send in donations in support of our dear friend Amanda, no doubt, they would. She’s given many pups a new lease on life with her love and devotion to boosting their atta-boy and good-girl behavior.
But, alas, our furry, waggy friends can’t show their unconditional love with a donation. But we humans can. That’s why we’re reaching out to you kind, generous souls who might want to help a fellow kind, generous soul who’s in need.
Who is Amanda you ask?
Amanda is one of those people whose heart is so big you can feel it when you meet her (all the dogs are nodding and wagging in agreement). She’s dedicated her life to training pups so they can be the most happy, well-mannered, carefree beings they can be. She left a bad situation in the Midwest in hopes of finding some inexpensive land to start a unique dog rescue. She found it and used up her life savings to buy it. It’s a beautiful spot, but it is very remote — and the living is far from easy.
Amanda is also a wonderful single mom to a 15-year-old son. The two of them live off-grid in a small, humble home in the high desert mountains. Due to a series of unfortunate events, Amanda has been left without a vehicle, just as the cold weather is about to arrive.
Why a new vehicle is needed
Now if you live in the city, being without wheels may be inconvenient, but it’s not a potential life-or-death situation. Out where Amanda lives, it truly is.
Living off-grid in the middle of nowhere necessitates the need for a reliable 4-wheel drive vehicle. Why? Because it becomes a tool, a literal lifeline to accessing your most basic needs:
Water: Amanda’s water doesn’t come out of the faucet unless she’s been to the community well, filled her 275-gallon tank, and hauled it home.
Warmth: Heating an off-grid house isn’t as easy as cranking up your thermostat. Amanda has to cut and haul firewood from the wooded parts of her property back to her house to use her wood-burning stove.
Food & Supplies: Living in the middle of nowhere, you can’t walk or bicycle to the grocery store or run out for any other needs. The closest town with shopping stores is more than an hour’s drive — and the dirt roads can be difficult to pass in the snow and mud.
Transportation: Like most of us, Amanda also needs a vehicle to get her to and from her work so she can continue to earn a living.
She’s a good cause!
Know that Amanda is a hard worker. Living off-grid is a huge challenge, but she’s never shied away from the task. Training dogs takes a ridiculous amount of dedication, compassion and patience, but it’s been her passion and her career for more than a decade. She firmly believes that you get out what you put in, and she takes a lot of pride in her work. The fact that she’s found herself in this situation is devastating to her. It’s not her personality to ask for help, let alone charity even though she is in grave need of it. That’s why we’re asking for her.
THE ASK
We’d like to raise about $9,000 to purchase a decent, reliable 4-wheel drive vehicle with some clearance and the ability to tow a trailer. Any amount you’re able to donate is absolutely appreciated. Know that your money will help support a beautiful soul who is doing good things in the world.
