Portage For Tablets
For Canada's 150th birthday, we wanted to shine a spotlight on a uniquely Canadian mission.
The Rumie Initiative is a non-profit tech start-up
working to make access to free digital education possible for communities both here in Canada and across the globe.
Justin, Esteban, Charlie and Todd have all been blessed to have been afforded great educations. But not all Canadians are so lucky. Only 40% of students on Indigenous reserves graduate high school, compared to 90% of students in the rest of Canada. The Rumie Initiative is working to fix this.
Indigenous leaders are partnering with The Rumie Initiative to curate free educational content for youth in their communities. Available offline via tablets, this curriculum will help high school students learn about Indigenous culture, history and language while gaining employment skills and financial literacy.
We believe in what Rumie is doing because we believe in Canada. To show that, we're going to be portaging canoes through the heart of Toronto - From Yonge and Sheppard to Lake Ontario - on Canada's 150th birthday. We would love if you donated to our portage and supported Rumie in their mission to bridge the educational divide here at home.
