Please lend a paw for Hi'ilani's ER Vet Bills

This is Princess HI'ilani. She is a ten-and-a-half-year-old Tibetan Spaniel and our precious little girl. She and her twin brother Pomaika'i (littermate to most) love to go on adventures: a walk through the trees in the mountains or getting their feet wet in the Colorado River is the greatest. Even a spell at home to relax is the best thing ever. The sunbeams on the floor are the most excellent spot in the house. However, these things are always best with each other. As such, these two are bonded siblings and never go without the other, until today.

These two siblings have been separated due to illness. Unfortunately, Hi'ilani got sick on Tuesday, June 14th. As she appeared to be getting worse, we could not wait for the vet appointment that coming Sunday. So, we rushed her to Animal House hospital, where her vet is. The vet completed an exam and performed numerous tests, and we learned that she now has diabetes. Some tests are still out, but it is also possible that she has a UTI, which, if true, will need to be treated. Her liver seems enlarged, and there are potential issues with her pancreas. The Vet also stated that she needs to stay in the hospital for about three days while she gets treatment and possibly more if they cannot stabilize her during that time. She will need several injections of various medications as well as a couple of catheters, one being for fluids as she is dehydrated. The vet also suggested taking her to a Critical Care Vet Emergency Hospital. For the time being, however, she is still at the original vet hospital and being cared for. At the moment, we are currently staying with the current vet. However, if things turn for the worst or her current vet insists, we will need to transport her to the Critical Care Vet Hospital where she can receive medical attention from specialist and have 24 hour care until she is stable enough to come home.

As you can imagine, our entire family is devastated. Hi'ilani's twin brother, Pomaika'i, is wandering around our home, whimpering and crying as he searches for his sister. I am trying to comfort him as best I can and be there for him, but I know he feels the worry in my touch. Even though Hi'ilani is ten years old, we never thought this would happen to her. We never thought that we would be asking for help. We hope to keep her around for many years to come. But, she needs immediate medical treatment and medication for the rest of her life.

When she does return home, she will need to add another medication, this one is an injection taken 2 a day, for the rest of her life. She is already on Canine Adquan injections for her Arthritis. The vet is also ordering 4 oral medications as well as specific food for her when she returns home. She will be on this special diet for the res of her life as well and this diet is expensive.

To date, the vet bill is upwards of $3000.00 for the various tests and treatments as well as for the hospital stay. Should she need to see the specialist, that will be an additional cost of between $3000 to $5000. This does not include the ongoing medications and special diet that she will be needing for the rest of her life.

Please lend us a paw as we just need a little help to get our girl on the road to recovery and living life to the fullest once again. Anything that is not used will be sent towards helping other Tibetan Spaniels in need via the Tibetan Spaniel Club of America Rescue & Health Trust so another Tibbie will get the help they need.
