Please help Zyva the service dog in her long road to recover

Donation protected
Hello! This is Zyva, aka Zdog, aka Zbeans, aka Beanna, aka Beans with the fur, aka crazy ass belgian. Z is my cardiac alert, migraine and allergen detection service dog. I depend on her to have some semblance of a normal life. Z also competes in lure, barn, agility, scent, and pretty much every dog sport known to man. To say she is amazing is an understatement. Has yet to meet a person who didn't fall immediately in love with her. She even has her own fan club at our kids schools and sports clubs.

Today, 4.30.24, Zbeans was outside playing with her best friend and accidentally caught her side on the fence and ended up degloving her abdomen and tearing the muscles on her ribs. The jerk broke through the screen door to let us know. My immediate thought was "okay, funny guys, I know we watched pet semetary yesterday, but not funny. " then I actually looked and seen her skin literally ripped off her side. Smoosh, aka Kinsley seen everything and had a complete breakdown.

We immediately rushed Z to Blue Pearl in Southfield. They cleaned her, gave her antibiotics and pain management medication. The doctor sat us in the room and basically said she could do the surgery, but waiting till the morning for the actual surgeon would be better and recommend calling different er vets to see if they had a surgeon on staff now. $700 later we headed out to Willsons in Romeo.

So at Wilson's, it was less happy news. Nothing I honestly didn't know. But we were given a less then stellar prognosis. If she does make it through surgery, the risk of infection and failure to take of the surgical repair is so high. She will need a minimum of 3 months to heal and will probably never be able to do sports again.

Those of you that know me, know I would do anything and everything I can for every person I have ever met. I carry protein bars in my car for the homeless we see. I have rescued hundreds of dogs over the last 10 years, often spending my own money on their veterinary care.
The last 2 years have been nothing but heartbreak for our family. Myself and my 16yr old son were both very, very sick with covid , developed long covid, and now diagnosed with POTS, MCAS, and my son developed a **(my phone changed thi from peanut to protein. I have zero idea why, but he definitely had a peanut allergy)**protein ** peanut allergy. We lost our boxer, Belle Belle to cancer after fighting with chemo, and then this past Christmas, we lost my first rescue baby, Princess Fatass to a ruptured tumor.

I dont want to ask, but I would be the 1st person donating (always anonymous) for others. If you have even $5 to spare, please consider donating for Z. She is literally the only reason I have any quality of life and is a huge reason I am still here.

***Update 5.4.2024

Z had a successful surgery with zero complications. She was taken off the heavy stuff, and now on gabs. She was beyond excited to see us, wanting to do her flying hugs she is so famous for. She is still sedated for 20 hours a day, but she slept with the kids and I on the floor for a few hours.

***Update 5.6.2024***

Well, things with Zyva went downhill.

Her skin is necrotic, so its pulling the healthy tissure and she will need more surgery to remove and reconnect the skin.

Z also has a major infection that is requiring a serious antibiotic that requires additional meds to help her stomach.

She is so far from being in the clear, but her attitude is amazing and she will defeat this. But God are her farts horrible.

**update 5/11**
Z had her 5th procedure Thursday to remove the dead skin, flush infection and make small incisions in the good skin so it can stretch more to cover more of the open area.

She is now home with daily vet visits. She is also on 4 different antibiotics, 2 anti-inflammatorys, 3 pain/sedation meds and meds for her stomach.

Z being a maligator, she is hard to keep stationary. I have on average 3 hours of broken sleep a day. The nightmares of her screams are still haunting.

If you can share or donate, we would greatly appreciate your help!

**Update 5.17.2024**

Z had her 6th procedure last night, as well as her second laser therapy.
Our amazing Vet belives that this will be the last one and her sutures will be removed in the next 10 days or so. I highly recommend the laser treatments. It's cut her healing time in half and her wound looks amazing!
Z has been home for an exhausting week. We sleep together on the couch or the floor if she doesn't feel comfortable. I never thought I would be excited to sleep in my bed as I am. We still need to keep her sedated most of the day, but she is the definition of a maligator and doesn't make it easy.

I wanted to express my complete gratitude to everyone who has prayed, shared wishful thoughts, shared our post and donated. This has been an incredibly hard time for our family and we couldn't have made it this far without all of your support! Thank you again!
