Don protégé
I've known Jessica (Tippi's mom) since she was born (literally). Jessica is one of the most caring and empathetic souls I've ever come across -- and she showed her dog Tippi an absolutely fantastic and love-filled life. Unfortunately, over the last week, Tippi's health took an unexpected turn and declined quickly after that.
Tippi started showing symptoms on March 6th (lethargic, not eating, and vomiting any water that she tried to drink). Upon going to the vet, they immediately did a blood panel and discovered high liver enzymes. The vet gave her an anti nausea shot and some fluids but also encouraged Jessica to take her to the animal hospital if the symptoms persisted. The next morning she was still throwing up her water and refusing food, so Jessica rushed her over to the animal hospital and by this point Tippi was also jaundice. Tippi was admitted and kept inpatient at the animal hospital for 4 days and endless tests (tested negative for Leptospirosis and other infections). During this time her blood sugar, liver enzymes, and kidney levels were fluctuating well beyond what is normal.
On Friday, March 15th the animal hospital had managed to regulate her levels and she even ate a little bit of bland food. She was able to go home at this point and Jessica had regained some hope for her when she could take her home (the animal hospital never was able to conclude what the actual diagnosis was). Once she was back home, Jess was still unable to get her to eat any food and she was also unable to control her bladder over the next 24 hours. On her final day, Tippi gave us a glimpse of hope when she was able to eat some plain chicken - but unfortunately over the next 24 hours she became even more lethargic and began shaking uncontrollably.
After speaking with the Doctors again, Jess made the unfortunate but necessary decision to put Tippi down in accordance with medical advice. Unfortunately we still don't know what caused her untimely death at only 3 years of age, but there will be an autopsy to determine the cause of death. In the meantime though, Jessica is now facing $6000 in vet bills. Jessica is a Therapist who works primarily with low income clientele and as a young first-time home owner, does not have the funds required to pay these bills.
Jessica didn't know Tippi for her entire life, but Jessica was Tippi's entire life. Tippi had a very unique personality and was also very anxious but Jess made her feel safe, loved, and secure. They didn't get to spend nearly enough time together but Jess made Tippi's life the best it could have possibly been. I know Tippi will always be with Jess as her first doggo -- and Jess did everything she could, at any cost to her own finances to try and save Tippi. Please help Jess out with these unexpected expenses!
In Tippi's Memory (and with great thanks),
